REA hits 420,000 GitHub stars in a month

REA, an open-source tool that connects reverse-engineering software to AI agents, surged in early October to 420,000 stars. Some declared app development over, but it does not recover source code.

REA (Reverse Engineer Anything), an open-source tool that connects reverse-engineering software to AI agents, has about 420,000 stars and about 100,000 forks on GitHub (as shown on its repository page on November 2). According to one write-up, morluto/rea, created in April, was quiet until late September, spread on X in the first week of October and reached No. 1 on GitHub trending on October 9; on October 13 alone it went from 170,000 to 200,000 stars and by October 14 it had 234,000 (values one analysis read from the GitHub API). In the heat, Matthew Berman (@MatthewBerman) posted "Software is done." on X on October 8, and a Korean YouTube video was titled "Is app development over?" But the same analysis says REA shows pseudocode, assembly and the relationships between functions and does not recover the original source, and it connects analyzers such as Ghidra and IDA to the agent rather than replacing them. Whether the stars mean real use is also unknown. Fake repositories riding the hype have appeared, so do not run downloads from anywhere but the official sources: morluto/rea, rea.tools and the npm package rea-agents.
