Of the 14,099 people who answered, 62.0% said they did extensive development work in JavaScript over the past year. SQL is second at 58.4%, HTML/CSS third at 58.2% and Python fourth at 58.0%, so the three sit within one percentage point. Bash/Shell (51.3%) in fifth is the last one above half, and TypeScript in sixth, at 43.8%, is 16.2 percentage points ahead of Java (27.6%) in seventh.

Respondents could pick several languages, so the shares add up to more than 100%. This is not user counts, market share, preference or satisfaction, and it does not tell a language used a lot from one people like. The question page does not give the publication date or the population, so the date is the day this ranking was made.
